Analysis and Design of Sheet Piles

Description

Sheet piles are commonly used for stabilization deep excavations and trenches. They can provide resistance for excavations up to a depth of about 5 m. They can also be used in waterfront applications as the interlocking mechanism between the sheet pile sections minimize flow of water. This course presents procedures used for analysis of sheet piles in different ground conditions. The course will also discuss the impact of flow of water on stability of the sheet piles as well as the use of Deadman for extra stability.

Course Content

  • Soil parameters required for calculation of earth pressures
  • Modes of failure for sheet piles
  • Embedment calculations for sheet piles
  • Flow of water behind sheet piles
  • Factor of safety application on sheet piles
