Lateral Earth Pressures in Soil
Description
Retaining structures are often used to stabilize any unstable slopes by providing lateral resistance support. A similar supporting system know as shoring supports are also used to provide stability for deep excavation especially in urban area. The design of these retaining and shoring systems require identifying the soil pressure coming from the soil behind these systems. This short lecture present procedures used for estimating the lateral earth pressures under various loading and deformation conditions (i.e., at-rest, active, p[passive) for different types of soil materials.
