Slope Stability Analysis and Design

Course description

This short course provides practical training for analysis and design of slopes, embankments, levees, excavations and slope stabilization. The course will review the related geotechnical knowledge and show you how to apply soil mechanics concepts to slope stability analysis and design. Step-by-step hand calculation along with examples of SLOPE/W software results will be illustrated and will show you how to apply the theory into practice.  All key concepts and guidelines will be explained and emphasis will be placed on the practical application of the information provided.

Who should attend?

This course would be beneficial to all civil engineering practitioners and especially to those involved in the design, approval and maintenance of slope stabilization issues and any other structural and construction systems, such as: civil, municipal, environmental and construction engineers, consulting engineers, plans review personnel in municipalities, public works professionals, plant engineers, who are involved with building and construction works, technicians and specialists, geologists and earth scientists, civil engineers who want to understand slope stability and stabilization methods. The course will be of value both for those who are new to the field as well as to those who have experience with retaining and shoring systems.

After participating in this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of slope failure and identify controlling parameters.
  • Select proper analysis method for slope stability analysis and slope stabilization.
  • Conduct slope stability analysis for natural and manmade slopes and embankments
